Biological Activity
Saflufenacil is a pyrimidinedione herbicide that inhibits protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase (PPO), disrupting chlorophyll biosynthesis and causing rapid cell membrane disruption and tissue necrosis.
Spectrum and Route of Action:
Contact herbicide with both foliar and residual soil activity. Rapidly absorbed by leaves, roots, and shoots and translocated throughout the plant. Foliar uptake causes rapid desiccation within hours; soil residual provides pre-emergence control. Effective on glyphosate- and ALS-resistant broadleaf weeds.
Scope of Application:
Controls a wide range of weeds including:
• Broadleaf weeds (pigweeds/amaranths, lambsquarters, kochia, Russian thistle, nightshades, velvetleaf)
• Glyphosate- and ALS-resistant broadleaf biotypes
• Suppression of certain annual grasses
Mainly used on:
• Corn/maize
• Soybeans
• Winter wheat
• Sorghum
• Pasture and rangeland renovation
• Non-crop areas and fallow ground
• Orchards and vineyards
