Biological Activity
Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum, non-selective systemic herbicide. It inhibits 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS), a key enzyme in the shikimic acid pathway, leading to the disruption of aromatic amino acid synthesis.
Spectrum and Route of Action:
Systemic herbicide absorbed through foliage and translocated throughout the plant, including roots and rhizomes. It kills both annual and perennial weeds. Symptoms appear slowly over 1-2 weeks as yellowing, browning, and complete plant death.
Scope of Application:
Controls a wide range of weeds including:
• Annual grasses (barnyardgrass, foxtails, crabgrass, annual bluegrass)
• Perennial grasses (johnsongrass, quackgrass, bermudagrass, dallisgrass)
• Broadleaf weeds (pigweeds, lambsquarters, ragweed, bindweed, dandelion)
• Perennial broadleaves (Canada thistle, field bindweed, hemp dogbane)
• Sedges (purple and yellow nutsedge)
Mainly used on:
• Glyphosate-resistant crops (soybeans, corn, cotton, canola)
• Orchards and vineyards (strip or spot treatment)
• Roadsides and non-crop areas
• Fallow land and conservation tillage
• Farmsteads and industrial sites
• Aquatic areas (aquatic formulation)
