Other name: Karmex, Diuron, DCMU, Direx
Cas No.: 330-54-1
Biological Activity
Diuron is a substituted urea herbicide that acts as a photosynthesis inhibitor at photosystem II (PS II). It is used for pre-emergence and early post-emergence control of annual grasses and broadleaf weeds.
Spectrum and Route of Action:
Systemic herbicide absorbed principally by roots, with limited foliar uptake. It inhibits photosynthesis at the D1 protein in photosystem II, causing chlorosis and gradual necrosis. Has moderate to long soil residual activity.
Scope of Application:
Controls a wide range of weeds including:
• Annual grasses (crabgrass, foxtails, annual bluegrass)
• Broadleaf weeds (pigweeds, lambsquarters, chickweed, purslane, henbit)
• Some perennial grasses and broadleaves at higher rates
Mainly used on:
• Cotton
• Sugarcane
• Asparagus
• Alfalfa
• Pome and stone fruits
• Citrus
• Non-crop areas (roadsides, industrial sites, fence rows)
• Turf (golf course fairways and greens)
