Biological Activity
Glufosinate-ammonium is a non-selective, contact herbicide that inhibits glutamine synthetase, leading to ammonia accumulation and disruption of photosynthesis. It controls a broad spectrum of annual and perennial weeds.
Spectrum and Route of Action:
Contact herbicide with limited translocation. Absorbed by foliage and causes rapid chlorosis and necrosis within 2-4 days. No significant soil residual activity. Used in glufosinate-resistant crops as well as for burndown and non-selective weed control.
Scope of Application:
Controls a wide range of weeds including:
• Annual grasses (foxtails, crabgrass, barnyardgrass, annual bluegrass)
• Broadleaf weeds (pigweeds, lambsquarters, ragweed, velvetleaf, morningglory)
• Some perennial grasses and broadleaves at higher rates
Mainly used on:
• Glufosinate-resistant crops (corn, soybeans, cotton)
• Orchards and vineyards (strip treatment)
• Non-crop areas and industrial sites
• Fallow ground and farmsteads
• Vegetable crops (directed spray)
• Nurseries and ornamentals
