Other name: MCPA, Rhonox, Weedone, Agritox
Cas No.: 94-74-6
Biological Activity
MCPA is a phenoxy acetic acid selective herbicide (synthetic auxin). It mimics the natural plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), causing uncontrolled and abnormal growth in susceptible broadleaf weeds.
Spectrum and Route of Action:
Selective systemic herbicide absorbed by leaves and roots and translocated throughout the plant. It disrupts cell division and growth regulation, leading to epinasty, stem curl, and vascular damage. Symptoms develop over days to weeks.
Scope of Application:
Controls a wide range of weeds including:
• Broadleaf weeds (charlock, wild mustard, chickweed, cleavers, knotweed)
• Docks and sorrels
• Thistles (creeping thistle, spear thistle)
• Dandelion and plantain
• Not effective against grasses
Mainly used on:
• Wheat (winter and spring)
• Barley
• Oats
• Rye
• Triticale
• Grassland and leys
• Turf and lawns
• Peas and beans
• Flax
