Biological Activity

Clethodim is a selective post-emergence herbicide belonging to the cyclohexanedione (DIM) family. It acts as an acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitor, disrupting lipid biosynthesis in susceptible grass weeds.

Spectrum and Route of Action:

Selective systemic herbicide absorbed by foliage and translocated through the phloem to meristematic regions. It inhibits ACCase, blocking fatty acid synthesis and stopping growth within hours. Susceptible grasses show chlorosis and necrosis at growing points within 1-3 weeks.

Scope of Application:

Controls a wide range of weeds including:

• Annual grasses (barnyardgrass, green foxtail, giant foxtail, large crabgrass, fall panicum)

• Perennial grasses (johnsongrass, quackgrass, bermudagrass, wiregrass)

• Not effective against broadleaf weeds or sedges
